A letter from Pastor Dan Forsberg:
"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel." -Philippians 1: 2-7
Dear members of Bethesda,
It is with great thanksgiving to God (and joy in my heart) that you have extended me a Call as pastor of Bethesda Lutheran Church in the Word and Sacrament Ministry of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I officially begin on January 1st, 2018. My family and I are very excited to join this new faith community. We already live in Moorhead and since I do not have to move, I can hit the ground running.
I know the F/M area well and have been watching Bethesda Lutheran grow up on the south side of town almost from its inception. Debbie and I raised our 3 daughters (Katie, Jeanne, and Diana) in Moorhead when I was pastor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in north Moorhead from 1990-2002 and Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo from 2002-2009. I have been bumping into old friends since my initial interview with the Bethesda Call Committee and our “Meet and Greet” evening at church. It feels like a coming home party!
A special thank you to the Call Committee for all their hard work, diligence, and faithfulness and who wouldn’t let me off the hook! They truly represented you well, and I feel so very grateful to them. I also want to thank Interim Pastor Phil Holtan who is such a great leader and wonderful presence in your life. I have known and respected Pastor Phil for a long time! I also want to thank the pastors in Bethesda who have been sharing their gifts and time when needed, and am so happy to have a built-in collegiality and support system among my peers. I look forward to getting to know all of you better, and am excited about our life together in Christ and where God will lead and bless us. We get to begin 2018 together!
Pastor Phil and Tammy have already sent names of parishioners on their visitation list. If there is someone you know who needs my visit it would be very helpful if you could leave an address, contact # and a good time to visit. You can get in touch with me any time, here.
Paul’s words in Philippians seemed so appropriate as I consider our relationship based on sharing in God’s grace, peace, joy, prayer, confidence, good work, holding each other in our hearts (especially through the hard things of life) and striving side by side for the sake of the gospel until it’s completion. It’s so fitting that the gospel on our first Sunday together will be the Baptism of our Lord. Our baptism unites us as the family of God, empowers us by the Holy Spirit to faith, worship, and to be led back out into the world for God’s mission in Christ. I have no doubt that God is going to do amazing things in and through us for his names sake.
See you all very soon! Love in Jesus, Pastor Dan

NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING
About the Gathering
Every three years there is a National Youth Gathering which takes place in different places around the country. About 30,000 youth and adult leaders from all over the ELCA come to worship, serve, and grow in their faith journeys together. There is time spent as a big gathering group and time spent in the community being God's hands and feet. The Gathering is open to students entering 9th grade - recent high school graduates at the time of the Gathering.
The next Gathering is during the summer of 2018 in Houston, TX. The dates of the Gathering
June 27- July 1, 2018. The theme for this year is "This Changes Everything" where we will dig into our faith focusing on Ephesians 2:8, "By grace you have been saved..."
It is a long tradition at Bethesda to bring in drummer from around the world, celebrate their talents, and share the cultures that make the Lutheran faith beautifully diverse.
